HOUSING IN TOMÁS GONZAGA STREET, PORTO
The project is integrated in the Casas do Património program (Houses of Heritage), launched by Porto municipality. The area is in Miragaia parish, close to the city historical center,  set out by UNESCO as Humanity Heritage. The plot is open to the Douro River. From the place it is possible to see old customs building, beginning of Douro Mouth and the Porto wine caves in the city of Gaia riverbanks.
The intervention program foresaw the rehabilitation and preservation of the existent granitic ruins, namely the ones in the center of the intervention area, which integrate stone elements that remain to the 16th Century. New volumes were planned, contributing to harmonizing the urban silhouette of the historic city.
The operation consists in eight dwellings design, with one single room, based on duplex typology. The resulting expression is characterized by tectonic unity, between the granitic masonry, and the matrix of the new building’s composition based in a grid of stone elements and smooth plaster plans.
